This is now historical data - and a very successful course it was indeed!
But if you would be interested in a future course - let us know!
THE ALPHA COURSE at St Mary Magdalen - 2007
Over the last fifteen years or so the Alpha Course has become the best-known and arguably most effective introduction to the Christian faith.
Subtitled "An Opportunity to Explore the Meaning of Life" it puts a strong emphasis on building friendships between participants. A vital part of this is sharing a meal together, before hearing somebody speak about an aspect of the Christian faith and then having an opportunity to discuss this, or anything else, together.
Following the course we ran last year, a number of the participants have continued to meet together in what has become a home group. This clearly shows the value they came to place on these friendships and the chance to explore issues that really matter.
Our forthcoming Alpha course will begin with a meal at Ask in the High Street on January 16th. This is free and gives an opportunity to discover a little about Alpha at St Mary’s. If you have not done Alpha before please come along to this – or even better invite somebody to come with you.
The course itself begins on Tuesday January 23rd and we are thrilled that Mike and Judy Barrow have agreed to open their home to host us. For more information about
the course or for an invitation to the meal at Ask please contact St Mary’s Parish office or complete the form below.

What is the point of life, what happens when we die? Is forgiveness possible?
What relevance does Jesus have for our lives today?...
What is Alpha?
The Alpha course is an opportunity for anyone to explore the Christian faith.
It's relaxed, non-threatening, low key, friendly and fun.
There is a meal together at the beginnning of each session which gives you an opportunity to get to know each other.
Listen, learn, discuss and discover. And ask anything. Alpha is a place where no question is too simple or too hostile.
And it's supported by all the main Christian denominations.
What's involved?
The Alpha course consists of a series of talks looking at topics such as "Who is Jesus?" and "Why and how do I pray?". After each talk we divide into small groups for a time of discussion.
Who is Alpha for?
Alpha is for everyone, especially:
- Those wanting to investigate Christianity
- New Christians
- Newcomers to the church
- Those who want to brush up on the basics
What will it cost?
There is no charge for the Alpha course, although you may be asked to make a contribution towards food.
