A year in the life of St. Mary Magdalen, Sheet

2004 - 2005

Petersfield Group Ministry:
Rob Dewing

The Petersfield Group Ministry consists of St Peter’s, St Mary’s Buriton and St Mary Magdalen Sheet. Most people in St Mary Magdalen are not particularly impacted by this, but it is an important feature of our church life. This has been particularly true in the Kairos process as representatives form each church have met quite regularly to plan research into our communities and to consider how we might respond to this. This meeting with others alongside in a cluster has been a feature of Kairos for all parishes in the Diocese, but in Petersfield the Group Ministry has given us a head start. We do certainly have a growing sense that parish boundaries make little sense in today’s world – particularly the boundaries between Petersfield and Sheet.

For me as Vicar the Group Ministry gives an opportunity to work and meet with colleagues. Every Tuesday morning we share a Eucharist together and follow this with a meeting when we discuss what has been happening in our respective churches and often do some study together; either looking at the lectionary readings for the coming week or discussing a book that we have all been reading. Beyond that we share confirmation preparation and occasionally preach in each other’s churches. There are also occasional opportunities to attend worship or some meeting in one of the other churches. We continue to explore how else we might share ministry together

Rock Distribution Manager for Sheet

The magazine of the Parishes of St Peters, St Mary, Buriton and St Mary Magdalen Sheet
During this last year Nora Knowles and Molly Fairfax have retired from the distribution team. I thank them for their help over many years. Pat Gibbs and Ros Draper have replaced them.

We deliver 170 copies in and just outside the parish boundaries. Ten copies are reserved by certain parishioners, who collect them from the back of the church, and between 10-15 are paid for via the wall safe. There are always a few available for visitors and newcomers.

The Rock will remain at 60p in 2005. There are no deliveries yet to the new development at Ramshill.

The PCC have agreed to increase the number of Pompey Chimes that we receive and these will be available as the Congregation leave the church on the last Sunday of each Month.

Thank you.
