A year in the life of St. Mary Magdalen, Sheet

2004 - 2005

Lay Pastoral Team (LPAs):
Rob Dewing

The Lay Pastoral Assistants (LPAs) are one of the treasures of St Mary Magdalen. They share the work of pastoral care in the parish with me and, of course, with numerous other people in the church. They lead the teams of people taking communion into the homes in the parish and take communion into others who are house bound, they look out for newcomers and any with particular needs in Church on Sundays, as well as being involved in baptism preparation, the prayer circle, the healing ministry, prayer cells and many other areas of church life. Besides this the LPAs meet with me every month and we discuss any particular issues that have arisen and to pray together. I value their support, honesty and hard work enormously. What they do is not unique in the church – we all share their ministry – but they are commissioned by us to do it and wear badges to show their particular role. I am convinced that their presence helps us to be the caring and loving church that I hope you will agree that we are. Thank you to all of them.

Chaplaincy Team:
Rob Dewing

The Chaplaincy Team exists to assist me and to work with the LPAs in the Church’s ministry. Being there for those in need is not limited to any one group of people in the church, but members of the Chaplaincy Team do play a particular role in enabling those who are unable to get to church to receive Holy Communion. Services take place on each Friday in the month in one of the Residential Care or nursing homes in the parish as well as in the Disability Centre and the Day Centre at Bulmer House. Six of the team are currently licensed to lead these services. We are always looking for more people to assist with these services. Do please speak to me or one of the LPAs if you would be able to assist.
