A year in the life of St. Mary Magdalen, Sheet

2004 - 2005

Funerals - Book of Remembrance:
Joy Rodgers (Funeral Clerk)

The original Book of Remembrance was given to St Mary Magdalen in 1977 by members and friends of Sheet Senior Citizens Club in memory of their founder Mrs Sylvia Kathleen Brownfield (1902-76). The Reverend Colin George dedicated it in 1978. Previous calligraphers include Miss Hilda Stephens, Mrs Yvette Cook and Mrs Mary Farmer.

At our All Souls Memorial Service in 1 November 2001, the Revd. Sarah Chapman dedicated a new Remembrance Book, bearing the sauce introductory inscription on the title page.

There are now 376 entries in the book, the pages of which are turned each day in order that the names may be seen. In addition, each name is included in the intercessions offered during the week of the anniversary of death.

In my capacity as Funeral Clerk, I am required to write to those who have been recently bereaved and to invite them to have the name of their loved one recorded in the Book of Remembrance. There is a small fee for this inscription and the money gained thereby is used for church flowers throughout the year.
